Diff

The Diff module allows you to compare page versions. Content authors and reviewers can exactly see what has changed between two versions of a page with the redlining feature. It allows line-by-line comparison of text and also displays changes to media files such as images.

Download

Download the Diff module from Magnolia Store or Nexus repository.

Installing

Diff is an enterprise module included in the Enterprise Edition bundle and typically already installed. Go to Magnolia Store > Installed modules in AdminCentral to check. To install the module individually, see the general module installation instructions.

Uninstalling

See the general module uninstalling instructions and advice.

Comparing page versions in the website tree

Before you attempt to compare page versions, make sure the page has been versioned. By default, Magnolia versions a page on activation. The versions dialog tells you how many versions exist. If the page has not been versioned you cannot compare.

To compare page versions in the website tree:

  1. Right-click a page and select Versions.
  2. Select a page version from the list. The last version is the current version.
  3. To compare the selected version to the current version, click Compare with current.
    - OR -
To compare the selected version to the previous version, click Compare with previous.

The page is opened to display the differences in content. Additions are highlighted green and deletions are highlighted red.

Comparing page versions in the Inbox

  1. Go to the Inbox.
  2. Edit a workitem.
  3. Click the Compare with previous link.

Comparing images

The Diff module compares only the path to an image, not the image binary. If an image still has the same path then it is not marked as changed.

For example, when you upload an image that has the same name as the image it replaces, the Diff module will not mark it as changed. The images have the same path.
