Introduction
Sitedesigner Overview
Access to the functionalities of Sitedesigner is based on two different roles: "Administrators" and "Editors". "Administrators" (Role: sitedesigner) have full access to all features, including setting up the design and choosing which types of content are to be used by editors. The role of the "Editor" is limited to creating pages, moving and filling them with contents. This section provides information for Editors. For an introduction on the Administrator role, please refer to the section SiteDesigner for Administrators .
As mentioned in the previous section the Sitedesigner consists of a "Layout" and a "Content" template. Let's see how the templates are used.
Layout Template
This template contains the configuration and settings which will be applied by the Content template. The wire frame can be configured, but also the distinct content areas. The configuration is done directly on a Web page based on the Layout template. This is usually the first Web page of the Web site tree.Content Template
This template implements the configuration settings found in the first parent page based on the Layout template. No configuration can be changed on a page based on the Content template.Getting Started
We assume that you have a default Magnolia installation with only the Layout and Content templates. We also assume that you are familiar with creating/opening pages and how to add/edit content. If not, please review the User manual section. When you start creating your Web site remember that pages with the Layout template hold the layout/design configuration, which is passed on to pages created with the Content template.
Often your Web page hierarchy will start with a page of type "Layout" and have child pages of type "Content".
