Work with the Sitedesigner
How to work with the Sitedesigner
Typically, Developers or Administrators have installed and prepared the Sitedesigner for you. Remember, the Sitedesigner is not a tool, it's a "system" consisting of two templates.
So the first thing you will do is create a root page (which can also be viewable by the Internet community) with the Layout template, then define the layout and at last add new pages with the Content template.
Don't let yourself get confused if you can not select the Layout template. In larger projects you quite often have a Designer taking care of the layout/design of the Web pages. In that case just continue using the Content template.
Following steps shall help you use (and hopefully enjoy) the Sitedesigner
- Create a page with the Layout template.
- Open the page and define the layout of the page (and child pages using the Content template).
- For each column define the set of paragraphs available to the Author.
- If the layout-page is also a content page, go ahead and add content.
- Create new child pages with the Content template.
You may now add content to your columns. You can do this by clicking on the "New"-button which appears at the bottom of each of your columns. After clicking this button, a window will open with a list of all paragraphs accessible to you. For a complete reference on these paragraphs, please refer to Paragraph Reference .
After saving a paragraph, the page you are working on will be reloaded. The new paragraph will be desplayed at the bottom of the column which you placed it in. Now you can move it to its final position. We will show you in an instant how this is done.
To view general information on a paragraph, click on the "i"-icon at the right side of the paragraph. This will open a field containing information on the type and settings of the paragraph.
Inheritance
You may choose to apply the inheritance feature to one of your content paragraphs, i.e. the paragraph will be displayed on all pages situated beneath the page you are working on in the structure. Please refer to Paragraph Reference for information on how to do this.
If an existing paragraph does not show any "Edit"-, "Move"- or "Delete" controls, then it is displayed by means of inheritance and is located on a page lying above the current one in the tree. By clicking on the "i"-icon, the link to the originating page will be displayed. Please refer to Paragraph Reference for information on inheritance of paragraphs.
Publishing Your Content
Once you are done editing your content, it will not be automatically activated to your live website. If you are sure that all changes are correct, you can go to AdminCentral and activate the page. Please refer to the documentation on AdminCentral for information on how to do this.
If you want to change the layout for a Web page in the hierarchy, create the page with the Layout template. The Layout template allows you to add content the same as with the Content template. Be aware though that all child pages will use the design/layout of the first found parent page using the Layout template! So going back to the previous design will require a new page with the Layout template. In that case you can just copy the page created with the original Layout template and just change the content. --> Remember: Layout is separated from Content!
